Extra Vote not working. No stars, only list! PLEASE HELP!

Hello! I have enabled the plug-in, content - extra vote, and I have disabled the plug-in, content - rating. I'm using Joomla 1.5.21. I would upgrade, but I'm really worried because the site is used every day by people and it is very big with over 30 something pages. So, do I need to upgrade? Could that be the problem?

Below is a picture of the problem. That's exactly what it looks like on my website.

I have read about this but I find no solution. There is one article on here that describes the exact problem, but they said they solved it through permissions in a certain file. Here is what the person said about fixing the problem.

"All fixed - It was a permissions problem on the "plugin/content/" directory"

But, there is no elaboration on what those permissions are.

It seems like for some reason your site is not loading the extravote stylesheet plugins/content/extravote/assets/extravote.css
It is most likely a permissions problem indeed, which means that you need to make sure that your plugins folder is readable as well as it's subdirectories.
Another solution could be to copy the content from extravote.css to one of your templates stylesheets.
