I hear you, but it works for now and I can live with this. Are there any security issues with this fix though?

Well potentially someone malicious could stick javascript / malicious HTML in the setting and it wouldn't be sanitised after being pulled out of the database so there's the potential for a hole - but in a single-administrator system I wouldn't think so....
