SEO tools can't find xml file on root

I'm on joomla 2.5.8, xmap 2.3.0
I've run my site through a few SEO analyses, ie Pear analytics, and they all return "no sitemap found". The sitemap is on the site, working beautifully, and the xml file is clearly in the root folder. What can I do so the search tools can find it?
