dots not handled well

the following is a broken link in the sitemap due to the dot - joomla seems to remove it as its not good in the url
I am hoping this could be an easy fix so that
hostels-and-apartments/13742-le-jazz-st.-denis
becomes
http://landed.at/hostels-and-apartments/13742-le-jazz-st-denis
