sitemap.xml file
I just installed XMap 2.0 and generated the sitemap OK using the link. I created a menu item for the site map using the XMAP XML option.
I have three problems that I need to solve soon before the development site goes into production in 10 days time.
1. If I cut and paste the link into the browser, it generates the site map. But it generates an html file. There is no sitemap.xml file that I need to save in the site root. How do I generate a valid xml file of the sitemap.
2. When I posted the working link in the Google Webmaster tools, the link is rejected.
3, When I enable the sitemap menu item in the joomla main menu and run it from within the site, I get the message that the requested site map is not found.
I do find that this extension is not an easy one to work with, but it is the only sitemap generator that works with HikaShop.
So I am hoping that I might get some solutions to these problems here.
Thanks
Jim

Re: sitemap.xml file
Hi,
1. The XML sitemap is always generated dinamically, you just need to submit the link that is given within the admin interface to Google
2. The error message could be helpful... it's reject, okay, why?
3. Did you select a sitemap on the options in the right?

Re: sitemap.xml file
The error is what I mentioned in point 1. Even though the menu item type is "XML site map", what I see when I use the link is an html page.
And that is what Google is reporting in the error message:
"Sitemap is HTML
Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead."
The link to the site map is
http://js-ca.net/potluckcms/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&id=1
Hope you can help me to debug this.
Thanks
Jim

Re: sitemap.xml file
I found that the problem with the xml version not showing was caused by sh404sef.
When I went into the control panel of the sh404sef component then
configuration/sh404sef configuration/By component
and changed the first three settings to
Leave as non-sef
Do not translate
Do not insert code
I found that the xml file was generated as expected and the link
../index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&id=1
was accepted by Google Webmaster Tools

Re: sitemap.xml file
mmm, but i think that gives non sef urls...( i did checked)
i just had same problem and basically blamed xmap. But i forgot about sh404sef.
In my situation sef created xml/1.html so that sucks. Cause from that point google is blind and doesnt see any xml.so what i did was go into sh404sef, looked up the xml/1.htm and changed that to index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&id=1, result from the xml show link it did show, and can be submitted to google.
