Is it safe to delete the old sitemap?

Postby barabass » Sun Jan 22, 2012 6:01 am

Hello everybody!
Since the beginning of my website I used dynamic xml sitemap plugin for my sitemap but then I found out there were some urls in it that didn't exist anymore so I had a lot of 404 crawling errors. It also indexes the dynamic version of the url although I use SEF urls. I switched to Xmap and I'm very happy with it. My question is: can I safely delete the previous sitemap (dynamicxmlsitemap) where I have many urls in the index? Is it safe to keep both of them?
Thanks for your help!

Yes, you can safely delete your sitemap, the search engines will not remove your pages from the index because of that, I wouldn't recommend to leave both if one of those have links to pages that doesn't exists anymore.
