XML Site Map problem with a multilanguage site

Postby guillenphoto » Mon Aug 19, 2013 12:26 pm

Hello,

I am running a multilanguage website using a Gavick template, K2 and SH404SEF.
Two languages: French and English.
I have installed Xmap to get a site map for each language.

I have one sitemap for the French Language and one sitemap for the English Language.
The two HTML sitemaps work well. They are generated and displayed.
Here the URLs:
http://www.guillenphoto.com/cms/plan-du-site
http://www.guillenphoto.com/cms/site-map

I am able to generate the XML sitemap in French to submit to Google but I am not able to generate the English one.
Here is the link: http://www.guillenphoto.com/cms/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&tmpl=component&id=2

The list is empty.

Is someone is able to help me to generate the english XML sitemap?

Thanks
regards

Hello,

I had the same problem as you.
I found a solution on internet. I do not remember where but it works.

You have to create a XML document containing the following lines:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<sitemapindex xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9">
<sitemap>
<loc>http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&id=1&lang=en</loc>
</sitemap>
<sitemap>
<loc>http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&id=1&lang=fr</loc>
</sitemap>
</sitemapindex>

Just change yoursite.com by the name of your site.
As you read, you create one line per language. You can submit the xml file to google, bing and yahoo.
It works. I did it that way and everything runs fine.

I hope it will help you

How do I have to name the file? And where should I put it?

After that I will be able to create the french and italian sitemaps?

It is easy.

1. You create a xml file named sitemap.xml for example.
2. You write all the lines you need as I described before. One line per language.
3 You put your xml file at the root of your website.

Then you submit the file to Google, Yahoo and Bing.
They are going to analyze your website withi 24 hours.

It works well.

Yes but I am not sure that if in my xml site maps generated with xmap that are empty (french and italian) this will work. In others words is your xml sitemap working after that (as you said it was empty)?

Best

Xmap is mandatory on your website because it gives all the links to search engines.
You must have the plugin installed.
You can check our website to see how it works: http://www.guillenphoto.com/cms/site-map

Once you have installed Xmap and generated the liste of articles, you can submit the Xml file to search engines.

You need both.

Did you create a sitemap menu on your website?

Yes but I read that you can not publish them but the menu item are created. What is really strange is that by trying to public them now the english xml sitemap is empty and the french is full... very strange.

In fact in the pic you can see that "html sitemaps stats" seems to be there but "XML sitemap stats" works for only one language...
