What are the implications of this for ongoing development of zOOm here?

Well, I think there are not implications for us. We are still working on it. Adding new cool features and fixing some bugs. I'm preparing a new beta release with all those new features that should be out in the next weeks. I'm going to add the project to JED as soon as the new beta is out. The Official ZMG website was offline for several months before they decided to close the project. I don't think that will make any difference.
