Hello! I installed xmap and I get a beautiful html list, but I do not get the xml list. That is, this link works.
http://www.stiintaazi.ro/index.php?option=com_xmap
but this one does not
http://www.stiintaazi.ro/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml
nor does this
http://www.stiintaazi.ro/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&no_html=1

Do you know what went wrong in configuring this?
Thanks,
Adrian

Hi, this is the first time I see something like that!

Which web server are you using?
Which is your PHP version?

Hello! I have a positive update with this issue. I talked with the administrator for my website and he realized that the error was not "HTTP 404 - File not found", but another error. The file was blocked by a fancy firewall he was using. He allowed it and it now can be seen on the internet, so this following link works.
http://www.stiintaazi.ro/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml

Thanks. However, the next step to submit the sitemap to google and other websites is to be able to show the output of the above mentioned link when asked for http://www.stiintaazi.ro/sitemap.xml

I found suggestions on how to do this at this thread:
http://joomla.vargas.co.cr/Forum?func=view&id=688&catid=5

So I did this. I have a windows server so in my joomla directory I found the file htaccess.txt and not .htaccess (which I guess would be for linux). There I found indeed the line

RewriteEngine On

and after it I did copy paste of these two lines, exactly as the instructions showed.

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/sitemap.xml
RewriteRule .* /index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&no_html=1

However, when asking for http://www.stiintaazi.ro/sitemap.xml one does not see http://www.stiintaazi.ro/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&no_html=1

I made sure it is not a firewall proble by checking from inside the network and it still did not work.

Then I tried with two simpler files.
I created a adi2.html file and I instructed the browser that when asked for http://www.stiintaazi.ro/adi1.thml to show the output of www.stiintaazi.ro/adi2.html. It dit not work either, it says file unknown.

So maybe I understood incorrectly what the piece of code was trying to do, or do you know what the error could be? It is not a firewall error this time and for the guy who tried this it worked smoothly.

Thanks,
Adrian

Hello! Here's my latest update. First I read a .htaccess tutorial and tried many syntax combinations that were there, but to no avail. It seems Apace for Windows does not use .htaccess. Also, I damaged my Notepad++ text editor while trying to open .htaccess with Notepad++. I had to reinstall it.

Finally, I talked to my server administrator and he made a script that takes the content of http://www.stiintaazi.ro/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml and writes it to sitemap.php every time ./sitemap.php is called and then he programmed directlty from the firewall, without using .htaccess, that every time the browser asks for http://stiintaazi.ro/sitemap.xml the server delivers the content from http://stiintaazi.ro/sitemap.php, which in turns reads on the fly the content of http://www.stiintaazi.ro/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml which is updated dayly.

So this is great, I solved my problem, but I would not have solved it without the help of my server administrator who did a bit of scripting. It would be great if for your next releases you could implement it in the xmap content so that you also create a sitemap.xml file, as you already have the contents at http://www.stiintaazi.ro/index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml, all you would need is then to copy it to sitemap.xml file.

Thank you for your prompt answer and I hope my experience can help other people who find the same problem. Good luck to you all and many thanks to the author for this great tool, the sitemap in html format looks just great, and I can see from one glance how many articles are in each category and so on.
