ahhh- cant install xmap... please help

i am trying to install xmap on joomla 1.5

i have being trying on the install from directory option as my ftp settings have never been accepted by joomla even though they work fine on all other ftp clients.

i have transferred all the files to a folder on the server and tried to install from there. everytime i try i get the same error:

JFolder::create: Could not create directory
Component Install: Failed to create directory.: "/usr/local/pem/vhosts/103477/webspace/httpdocs/get-a-girlfriend-now.com/components/com_xmap"

can anyone help as this is driving me crazy....

ps i am new to joomla and not very technical

Hi, I thinks your problem is not related to Xmap but folder permissions. Try installing other component and you should get a similar error!

Check the folder permissions for:
/components
/administrator/components

ok. i have checked both permissions. they are the same: 755 is this correct?

I don't know! Who is the owner, can the web user write on those folders?

you are a life saviour.... i changed the permissions to 777 and it worked first time.

is it safe to leave the permissions at this or should i revert back to 755?

Well, 777 is not safe, but if you don't know which the owner of the folder should be, then that's the only way you can install new components.

Probably you are gonna have to modify the owner or permissions for other folder too if you notice problems.

/cache
/tmp
/images (This if you cannot upload images )
/modules (if you cannot install modules)
/plugins (if you cannot install plugins)

Or, you can use the FTP layer feature from Joomla, check it in your Global configuration settings.

well it has installed but it still wont work. everytime i try launch the component i get the following error:

There is not created sitemaps yet
ERROR: Unable to load Settings from Database: Create Settings table
Table 'db1005809_girl.jos_xmap_sitemap' doesn't exist SQL=INSERT INTO jos_xmap_sitemap (`name`,`expand_category`,`expand_section`,`show_menutitle`,`columns`,`exlinks`,`ext_image`,`menus`,`exclmenus`,`includelink`,`usecache`,`cachelifetime`,`classname`,`count_xml`,`count_html`,`views_xml`,`views_html`,`lastvisit_xml`,`lastvisit_html`,`excluded_items`,`compress_xml`) VALUES ('New Sitemap','1','1','1','1','1','img_grey.gif','mainmenu,0,1,1,0.5,daily','','1','0','15','xmap','0','0','0','0','0','0','','0')

this is really annoying. i looked in the phpadmin and the table has not been created. i dont know how to do it manually....

any ideas

Is that the only missing table? There should be more jos_xmap*** tables!

well there are no jos_xmap tables at all so i presume there are more missing.

how did it install "correctly" if i didnt create the necessary tables?

is it possible to do these manually?

Have you tried uninstalling it and installing it again?
