One way is using a module class suffix. You will find a field for it in the "Advanced Parameters".

I followed the instruction and Module Class Suffix but it doesn't change anything.

I want to change color of font so in template_css.css I added the following.

   color: #ffffff;
}

next in mod_filterednews, Module Class Suffix added -hilite9 but the font color doesn't change.

The example provided in the instructions you read may not apply here, and it depends on your template and the module position, that's why we recommend you to examine your page's source code in order to add the correct CSS declarations.
