Issue with Google and SH404SEF redirects?

Postby jasonashaw » Sat Mar 22, 2008 11:11 am

Hi,

I have the component SH404SEF installed. I get warnings from Google that my URLs redirect - guess google doesn't like that.

Is there a way to have the XMap generate a sitemap using the real URL's instead of the search friendly ones that SH404SEF creates? This is only necessary for the xml sitemap for google.

Thanks,
Jason

Well, there is not option to do that. Anyway, I don't think thats the problem, the friendly url doesn't redirects to other place, maybe the problem could be with the url you are submiting to google, try using index2.php instead of index.php
Eg:
if your url is
index.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&sitemap=1&no_html=1

use this instead:
index2.php?option=com_xmap&view=xml&sitemap=1&no_html=1

I think jason may be experiencing the same problem that I am. I use Joomla 1.0.15 and xmap 1.04. I recently installed and began to use sh404sef, but I also received this error when just turning on the default joomla sef urls. So I don't believe that the issue lies with sf404sef.

When I login to my google webmaster tools I see that there are warnings associated with my sitemap. When I look at them I get the following message:

URLs not followed
When we tested a sample of the URLs from your Sitemap, we found that some URLs were not accessible to Googlebot because they contained too many redirects. Please change the URLs in your Sitemap that redirect and replace them with the destination URL (the redirect target). All valid URLs will still be submitted.

When I view the either the HTML or XML versions of my sitemap I see they contain the correct SEF URLs. I know that when turning on SEF there are 301 redirects setup for old urls, but from a little searching I've done, it seems to me that google must be receiving a string of redirects when attempting to crawl the urls on my sitemap.

I could really use some help figuring this out. Thoughts, comments?

I thought I would post for anyone else who might experience this problem....

My issue seems to have completely taken care of itself. So I might suggest for anyone who experiences the problem as I described it, to simply let Google crawl your site for a few days and it might clean itself out.
