error when starting Xmap

Postby r_ekkie » Mon Feb 06, 2012 9:58 pm

After I installed Xmap 2.2.1 on Joomla 2.5.1 and I go to components Xmap I get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined method JLanguage::getBackwardLang() in /public_html/administrator/components/com_xmap/admin.xmap.php on line 25

there is no "admin.xmap.php" included with Xmap 2.2.1, are you sure you installed the correct version of Xmap?

Actually, the only version for Joomla 2.5 and above is 2.3.2. I just attempted to install that version "without" extracting anything from the initial zip, and the installation failed.
I extracted the files from within the 1 downloaded file and installed the component. The link that appears with the Xmap icon at the bottom of the "Components" list links to administrator/index.php?option=com_xmap
When I click on that icon I get the following error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method JLanguage::getBackwardLang() in /??/??/public_html/administrator/components/com_xmap/admin.xmap.php on line 25

Now, I have Xmap working perfectly in another site - an exact replica of the one throwing the error. I know it's a replica because I took the db from the working site and used that in the site throwing the error. I then uninstalled Xmap and reinstalled the only available version for J2.5 and higher. I still get the error - after refresh, clearing cache, and doing everything I can think to tell the system to forget the program ever existed before the current install.

I'm going to look at the admin.xmap.php because, in fact, there "is" that file in the main com_xmap folder. In the meantime, I'm hoping to hear back as to why the program is causing the problem.

I found the answer!

Further investigation led me to another post here in Vargas.
Somewhere in this site is yet another post that states you "must" ensure to uninstall all the plugins before attempting to install or update/upgrade.

Perform the following:
Extensions > Extension Manager > Manage
Filter > Select Type > Plugin
In the list, select 1 of the Xmap plugins and uninstall - repeat for every Xmap plugin, one-by-one.

After all of the plugins are uninstalled, change the "Filter" back to the default, "Select Type", so that all extensions show. If you see anything related to Xmap, uninstall.

Refresh, clear cache, then install Xmap pkg_xmap-2.3.2.zip

This should fix all errors and issues, get you back running with no problems again.
