Free extensions for Joomla!

Hi I wonder if you can point me in the right direction.
I have installed the Dinamod module and followed the documentation on the site but I can't get any tabs to show when my site is previewed locally (not online as yet). Do I manually need to add a template position of dinamod??
I have been reading some of the other topics in this forum and have read that some javascript should appear on my index.php page but I don't see any on mine .
I am using Mac and have previewed my site on Safari and Firefox.
