Virtuemart products in multiple parent categories issue

Postby stefanos » Thu Feb 17, 2011 12:10 pm

Hi,

using: joomla 1.5.22, virtueMart 1.1.7, xmap 1.2.10

I got an issue with xmap when virtuemart products exist in multiple parent categories, example:

lets say that we have 3 categories, one inside the other like this:
--cloths
------t-shirts
------------black_t-shirts

and we have the product "nice_black_t-shirt" originally existing in category "black_t-shirts". Now for many reasons, this product should also exist in the other 2 categories (multiple choice of categories in the product settings). This way everything works the way it should,.. the virtuemart categories all show correct, the rss, except xmap, that shows this product in all. I believe what xmap does is right, but not so right. They look like this:

--cloths
------t-shirts
------------black_t-shirts
------------[nice_black_t-shirt]
--[nice_black_t-shirt]
------[nice_black_t-shirt]

this causes a total mess in the sitemap structure if you consider many products. I've already started looking in the code in case I find something, all we need here is an option to show the product only in last category ?????

Any ideas in how to solve this ???

thanks !!!

I personally haven't found a solution yet through xmap, once it does not have such features to exclude categories as it has with other things.

.. but there are ways you work on this, always depending on the structure of your categories. Needs a lot of imagination and no code hack, just disabling categories from public for example, or other similar tricks. I personally needed to make a whole new category structure style in order to have a decent sitemap only of the ones I wanted. .. sounds like lame, but xmap cannot help for now on this :-)
