I would suggest applying some CSS. Add something like this to any of your template's stylesheets:

.authorlist-authors td.item-email a {
   background: red  url(../images/email-icon.png) no-repeat;
   display: block;
   height: 20px;
   font-size: 0;
   width: 20px;   
}


Remove the "red" part after you have successfully called the right icon and give it the right height & width.

If it works, then you would owe me 4 beers

....mmmh now i'm just wondering if it is possible to use some kind of category for grouping the authors...it will be nice have the authors list category 1 different from the authors list category 2, for my example i wish to divide in who is still writing and who is not writing anymore
