XML Files Won't Load (HTTP 504) [Solved]

Postby Inferno » Wed Jan 30, 2013 5:23 am

Hey guys!

First, let me say this is a great Sitemap extension. Used it perfectly for a few weeks, then, somewhat inexplicably, it stopped working.

Currently on Joomla 2.5.8 and everything is up-to-date as far as our plugins are concerned. The only change we made between the last time we successfully submitted the sitemap and when it stopped working was to enable GZip and add a couple lines for leveraging browser caching in our htaccess file.

The problem is that after creating a new Sitemap (any new sitemap) and click the XML button, it opens in a new window just like it always did, and shows a blank page for several minutes before becoming a static blank page in Firefox or returning "Server error (HTTP 500)" in Chrome. When I attempt to submit the URL to Google it reports an HTTP 504 Error.

We reverted the .htaccess and turned off Gzip and it still does the same. I then uninstalled the component, verified the tables were deleted, then reinstalled with a fresh download from your site (the same version we were running before). After the install, there's the exact same behavior.

What could I look into to figure out the root cause of this? I've spent nearly an entire day trying to figure it out so far but it seems like a server issue of some kind, but where would it have come from all of a sudden?

Thanks very much in advance for your time, it's most appreciated!

Have a great day,
Inferno

I called my host and they reinstalled several PHP extensions that solved this problem. Possibly related to the PHP.ini.
